I am pleased to announce that I have been selected to receive the CUNY Academy Stewart Travel Award for Assistant Professors for the 2018-2019 academic year.

A new doctoral student, Harun Iftikhar, will join our team starting this Fall semester! Harun will enter the PhD program in Computer Science at the CUNY Graduate Center as a half CUNY Graduate Center Science Fellow, which offers salary for two years and tuition for ten semesters.

Harun’s research interests are in programming languages, software engineering, and natural language processing. He previously attended Cornell University for his undergraduate degree as an English major and has attended Brooklyn College and Columbia University for Computer Science as a graduate student. Before college, he went to high school in Islamabad, Pakistan. His hobbies are cricket and tennis. Congrats, Harun, and welcome to the team!

Received Women in Technology and Entrepreneurship in New York (WiTNY) Grant as Co-PI

I am pleased to announce that I have received a grant from Women in Technology and Entrepreneurship in New York (WiTNY) as co-principal investigator, along with Dr. Saptarshi Debroy, for the project entitled “Project Khaleesi–Mentoring Tomorrow’s Cybersecurity Queen of Dragons.” The grant amount, backed by the Verizon Foundation, is $125,000 US. The project will aim to promote cybersecurity and secure software engineering education and research to women students entering CUNY as freshmen with an interest in STEM. WiTNY is an initiative to facilitate, encourage, and enable increased participation of women in technology fields, both as entrepreneurs and academics, in New York.

Received CUNY Diversity Projects Development Fund Award

I am excited to announce that I have been awarded the City University of New York Diversity Projects Development Fund (DPDF) Award for the 2015-2016 fiscal year as a sole investigator. The award is sponsored by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Human Resources Management at the Office of Recruitment and Diversity.

The Diversity Projects Development Fund (DPDF) was established by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Human Resources Management to support educational projects, scholarly research, creative activities and other programmatic initiatives that promote multiculturalism, diversity and inclusion, affirmative action and nondiscrimination for the benefit of the University community.
