Oren to participate in Google Summer of Code 2018
I am pleased to announce that Oren has been selected to participate in the prestigious Google Summer of Code program this summer. He’ll be receiving a generous stipend to work on an open source project for the Eclipse Foundation, and I will be serving as his coach along with his mentor Yasser Aziza. He’ll be working on a program analysis and refactoring to be integrated into the Eclipse IDE that makes reasoning about abnormal program termination easier. Congrats, Oren!
Received NSF ICSE 2018 Travel Award
I am pleased to announce that I have received a NSF ICSE 2018 Travel Award to attend the International Conference of Software Engineering (ICSE) in Gothenburg, Sweden next month.
ICSE is the premier software engineering conference, providing a forum for researchers, practitioners and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, experiences and concerns in the field of software engineering.
Received Women in Technology and Entrepreneurship in New York (WiTNY) Grant as Co-PI
I am pleased to announce that I have received a grant from Women in Technology and Entrepreneurship in New York (WiTNY) as co-principal investigator, along with Dr. Saptarshi Debroy, for the project entitled “Project Khaleesi–Mentoring Tomorrow’s Cybersecurity Queen of Dragons.” The grant amount, backed by the Verizon Foundation, is $125,000 US. The project will aim to promote cybersecurity and secure software engineering education and research to women students entering CUNY as freshmen with an interest in STEM. WiTNY is an initiative to facilitate, encourage, and enable increased participation of women in technology fields, both as entrepreneurs and academics, in New York.
Received Hunter College Faculty Research Fellowship
I am pleased to announce that I have recently received a Hunter College Faculty Research Fellowship for 2017. The fellowship is designed to support faculty development by providing research guidance and planning, peer support, and constructive peer review.

I am pleased to announce that I have been granted a Research Foundation of CUNY Faculty Research Travel Program award.
New Student David wins 2017 Hunter College Research Fellowship
Welcome aboard, David Morant, my new research student! David has been awarded a 2017 Undergraduate Research Fellowship from Hunter’s Undergraduate Research Initiative, and we will be working together during the Spring 2017 semester.
David is an avid Android developer that is taking the CSCI 49900 capstone course at Hunter this semester. Along with his group, he has been working on a web-based application, as well as a REST API, for finding available resources on campus. The project also includes an Android client.
David has also worked as an Android development trainer at several companies, including Coalition for Queens and Turn to Tech. He has also interned as a front-end developer and assisted teaching a Python course.
Walter selected as Technology Service Corps participant
I am pleased to announce that Walter Rada has been selected as a participant in the Technology Service Corps program from NPower. Congrats, Walter!
Technology Service Corps builds brighter futures for underserved young adults and veterans through free technology and professional skills training.The program includes technical classes, mentoring from business leaders, internships and career development workshops at leading corporations and nonprofits, industry-recognized certifications as well as employment and alumni services. More than 80% of our alumni are employed or pursuing higher education within one year of graduation.
